You might recognize yourself here if you’ve felt:
-

Anxiety & Stress
Your body's stuck in "on," even when nothing's actively wrong.
-

Disconnection
You're going through the motions, and somewhere along the way, stopped feeling like yourself.
-

Self-Criticism & Perfectionism
"Good enough" never quite feels like enough.
-

Life in Transition
A new role, a new chapter, a new version of you — parenthood, change, all of it — and you haven't caught up to who you're becoming.
You don't have to fix these parts of yourself. You can get curious about them — and you don't have to do that alone. That's where IFS, and this work, begins.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Parts Work in Vancouver, BC
What is IFS
Internal Family Systems, or IFS, is a way of understanding yourself as made up of different parts: an inner critic, a protective part, pieces of you still carrying old hurt or fear. When these parts pull in different directions, it can feel exhausting.
Instead of trying to silence or override any part, we get curious about it, recognizing that it took shape for a good reason, and has been doing its best to help you ever since.
Vancouver IFS Trained therapist
Hi, I’m Anna.
I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with a Master of Counselling Psychology, offering individual counselling in Vancouver, BC and online across BC. My work is anchored in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, through advanced training with the IFS Institute and ongoing monthly individual supervision.
I don't practice IFS as a single, fixed method applied the same way to everyone. I layer it with mindfulness, nervous system awareness, expressive arts, and emotion-focused and dialectical approaches, depending on what you need and where you're at.
If you've read about IFS or listened to podcasts on the topic, you may already know the theory. What I invite is the practice — real support, tailored to you, session by session, to help you connect with what's going on inside.
What we might work on together:
Individual counselling, one-on-one, with a collaborative and transparent approach that trusts your own capacity for healing rather than trying to install someone else's version of it.
A few of the things people are usually carrying when they get in touch:
-
When you're stressed, on edge, low, or running on empty.
-
When it's never quite enough, no matter how things go.
-
Whether it's a change you chose or one that just arrived, still not feeling steady in it.
-
When parenthood brings old patterns, unmet needs, and reactivity to the surface.
-
When things look fine on paper and still feel oddly flat.
Where we meet: two offices, plus online.

Common questions about IFS Therapy
-
Internal Family Systems, or IFS, is a way of understanding yourself as made up of different parts — an inner critic, a protector, pieces of you still carrying old hurt or fear. When these parts pull in different directions, it can feel stressful and confusing.
Rather than trying to silence or override any of them, IFS invites curiosity about each one. Every part took shape for a reason, and has been doing its best to help you ever since. As that shift happens, it tends to bring more steadiness — and more room to move through life with compassion for yourself.

IFS is a recognized trauma-informed therapeutic model with a growing body of research behind it. Early studies — including randomized controlled trials — show promising results, particularly for trauma and PTSD. It's also a structured model with formal training levels through the IFS Institute, which I am trained in — I've completed Level 1 and am currently in the process of completing Level 2.

Yes. I offer a free 20-minute call, by phone or video — whichever feels easier for you. We'll talk about what's bringing you to counselling, I'll give you a brief introduction to how I work, and we'll cover the practical details of working together. You're welcome to bring questions, and there's no pressure to decide anything right away.
-
Both. I see clients in person at two Vancouver locations, my West Broadway office in Fairview and my Cambie Village office. I also offer online sessions, which are available anywhere in British Columbia.
As an RCC I can also provide online counselling to individuals in the following areas: Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.

It might be, and it's worth talking about. Many people arrive having already done a lot of valuable work — they understand their patterns well and can explain exactly why they feel the way they do — and they're now looking for a different way in. That's often what brings people to this kind of work: not because other approaches haven't worked, but because they're ready to try something that engages with those patterns in a new way.
-
Essentially, yes. Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a specific, well-known model for doing this kind of work — probably the one you're most likely to hear about on a podcast or from a friend — but it isn't the only one. Other approaches, like Ego State Therapy, Schema Therapy and elements of Gestalt Therapy, also fall under the parts work umbrella. So all IFS is parts work, but not all parts work is IFS.
